Given that Colombiana comes from the mind of Luc Besson, the man behind the awesome assassin flick Leon: The Professional and the La Femme Nikita TV series, you know that this movie is gonna knock your socks off. We first meet Cataleya (Amandla Stenberg) as a young girl who’s just witnessed the murder of her mother and father at the hands of Colombian kingpins. She escapes to Chicago where she’s raised by her gangster uncle (Cliff Curtis) but Cataleya’s (played as an adult by Zoe Saldana) experiences have left her with a thirst for revenge and maiming others. Soon, she’s earning cash to kill but she’s working on another mission at the same time: to find the culprits behind her parent’s murder and to eliminate them. But wait, there’s more! Cataleya’s fallen under the love spell and surprise, surprise, this is going to lead both her and her man Danny (Michael Vartan) into trouble. Yikes!
