‘What if’ scenarios are always intriguing but when they can very possibly happen in real life, well, that just piles on the creep-factor. Boasting more A-listers than attendees at next year’s Oscars (Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, Marion Cotillard, Kate Winslet, Laurence Fishburne and Matt Damon are all in the mix), Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion exposes just how vulnerable humans are. It all starts when Beth (Paltrow) returns from a business trip and contracts a virus. From here, we witness a full-blown epidemic at play and no one’s safe. Dr. Ellis Cheever (Fishburne) and those in the World Health Organisation put their heads together to try and find a solution to the epidemic before it wipes out the human race. Contagion is a confronting flick that puts you in a similar situation and questions every one of your actions from then on.
