Given that there have been over twenty flicks adapted from Alexandre Dumas’ The Three Musketeers novel, whenever a new version pops up, it had better be darn good. Thankfully, this version packs a steampunkish look and feel that resonates throughout the entire movie. Despite its title, this flick actually tells the story of four musketeers and revolves around D’Artagnan’s (Logan Lerman aka Percy Jackson) quest to join the French king’s elite force. Soon though, he learns that the evil Cardinal Richelieu (Christoph Waltz – who plays a snarky man better?) has dismissed them all. Richelieu has visions of seeing England and France battle it out in a war so that he can claim the throne. D’Artagnan continues on his travels where he soon bumps into an interesting semi-retired trio – Athos (Matthew Macfadyen), Porthos (Ray Stevenson) and Aramis (Luke Evans). The trio soon combines forces with D’Artagnan and embark on their quest to save the day. Two words: pure magic!
